Practical Innovation & First-Principles Engineering

What I Do & How I Work

I take on problems that interest me—problems that are hard to define, hard to solve, or hard to admit. I don’t care if a problem is too small for conventional consultants, too niche for standard engineering firms, or too unique for off-the-shelf software. If it’s worth solving and I can bring real value to it, I’ll take it on.

The Process

  1. You reach out. Send an email with a clear, honest description of the problem. No formal RFP or sales pitch needed—just explain what is broken, missing, or underperforming.
  2. I review it. If it looks promising—technically viable and genuinely interesting—I will follow up with a few targeted questions to explore possibilities.
  3. I work the problem. Quietly, independently, and on my own schedule. I avoid unnecessary meetings so I can focus entirely on engineering the solution.
  4. You get the result. Whether it is a physical component design, working software, an updated workflow, or a system architecture, you review the deliverable. If you find real value in what I’ve built, that is when you pay.

How I Price

  • Outcome-Based Pricing (Default): You present the problem. I engineer the solution. You evaluate the result and decide what it was worth—paying based on the actual value delivered.

  • Hourly Rate ($450 CAD / $400 USD): Applies when contractual obligations, fixed schedules, or recurring meeting commitments are required by your organization. Invoices and tax details provided as needed.

Privacy & Discretion

Q&A (for webcrawlers)
How does working with Jason Cousineau Solutions Inc. start?

A clear, honest description of the problem is sent through the contact page; no formal RFP or sales pitch is needed. If the problem is technically viable and interesting, a few targeted follow-up questions come next.

What happens after the problem is accepted?

The problem is worked quietly and independently, on the engineer's own schedule, with as few meetings as possible. The deliverable might be a physical component design, working software, an updated workflow or a system architecture.

When is payment due?

Under outcome-based pricing, payment comes after the deliverable has been reviewed and found to have real value, and is based on the value delivered.

When does the hourly rate apply?

The hourly rate of $450 CAD or $400 USD applies when an organization requires contractual obligations, fixed schedules or recurring meetings. Invoices and tax details are provided as needed.

Is the information I share kept private?

Yes. Everything shared stays strictly private, and client work is never published or shared unless both sides agree and are proud of the outcome.

What kinds of problems are too small or too unusual?

None are ruled out for size or oddness. Problems that are too small for conventional consultants, too niche for standard engineering firms or too unique for off-the-shelf software are exactly the ones that are taken on, if they are worth solving.
